The 2011 Scone Racing Carnival

The inaugural running of the Inglis Guineas for 3 year olds took place on 14th May 2010 with $770,000.00 prize money. On the same day, the Minister for Racing and Gaming & Minister for Sport and Recreation, The Honourable Kevin Greene announced that Scone Race Club had been awarded a “stand alone” Saturday race meeting which will be run the day after the Scone Cup in May 2011. This was the first time in racing's 200 year history that a traditional metropolitan race day has been allocated to a country area.

The 2011 Scone Carnival was unique for two major reasons:

1. We will have a 'stand alone' metropolitan equivalent meeting. For the first time in 200 years Sydney racing will go to the bush. Scone Race Club will be the focus of the nation on May 14 2011. At last this town, this district, so steeped in equine history, will have its day in the sun. We will join the likes of Newmarket in England, Kentucky in the USA and Deauville in France as a district nationally and internationally recognised as the home of the thoroughbred. The fact this has been made possible by the involvement of Inglis, the oldest and most respected thoroughbred auction house in the land and by the generosity of the oldest and most respected thoroughbred nurseries in the land is particularly appropriate.

2. Over the two day Emirates Park Scone Cup/Inglis Guineas Carnival on May 13 & 14 2011, we will distribute in the vicinity of $1.9m prizemoney making it by far the richest non metropolitan carnival in 200 years of racing in NSW. A provisional programme of racing for the 2 days is listed below.

You will note the synergy between the matron (the filly or mare) and our proposed programme. Three of the feature races accompanying the Inglis Guineas on Saturday May 14 will be for fillies and mares. In time (when these races gain black type status) we will be able to send 9 fillies or mares away from the meeting with black type. Given that we live in the heartland of our great breeding industry and that our major sponsors are thoroughbred studs this seems to be an obvious and relevant theme.

We look forward to welcoming you to our inaugural two day carnival in May 2011.
